- ISSM offers revolutionary strategy of the semiconductor manufacturing- For revitalization of Japan's Semiconductor Industry - by Mr. Koji Maekawa of PDF Solutions, a member of ISSM Organizing Committee
International Symposium of Semiconductor Manufacturing (ISSM) has been providing remarkable opportunities to offer the revolutionary strategy of the semiconductor manufacturing technologies, the global networking among scientists and engineers, and the human resource development since its start in 1992 in Japan.
During its 24 years history, ISSM committee has reviewed and changed its mission statement from time to time. ISSM committee still keeps a concept of transforming "know-how" to "science" of the semiconductor manufacturing technologies, and promotes the same concept as its core mission in a new mission statement. On the other hand, the new mission statement addresses the decrease of the number of the semiconductor manufacturing players as the significant industry trend. Fewer players increase their manufacturing capacity and achieve the significant market share in the global market. The new mission statement no longer addresses the Japanese semiconductor manufacturers pursuing the advanced technology node of the semiconductor and their manufacturing globalization as their main business objectives.
In SEMICON Japan 2015, ISSM held a half-day session as its new trial. The session focuses on the topics on the high reliability and high precision semiconductor device manufacturing especially for automotive application. The session includes a two hours panel discussion interacting with the audiences. As another new trial, ISSM committee forms the task force teams for several strategic topics. The committee conducts the action plans of each task force team to review the challenges for the future semiconductor manufacturing in the global market.
This article was written by Mr. Koji Maekawa of PDF Solutions, a member of ISSM Organizing Committee and a member of ISSM Promotion Task Force team. Mr. Maekawa describes the strength of Japanese semiconductor industries along with an overview of the key strategies for the successor for the future semiconductor business. - Nature of Industry 4.0 for sharing society by a member of ISSM Program Committee
Japan's excellent manufacturing technologies have been facing with the challenges accelerated by "Industry 4.0".
Is "Industry 4.0" a simple concept based on data-driven high-mix mass-volume manufacturing? The author analyzed the nature of "Industry 4.0" as manufacturing concept for sharing society system which IoT has brought by connecting all "things" into network.
